Recognizing Online Pharmacies in Good Standing Using Certification

August 28th, 2008 · 2 Comments

In previous article (see: beware of fake generic drugs) I have mentioned about how to buy genuine prescription drugs on the net. This time I want to show you a shortcut to recognizing online pharmacies in good standing, so you don’t have to check the entire site to be sure about the credibility of an online pharmacy.

One way is to see the certificate seal attached on the homepage.

There are many verification programs on the net with the aim to certify or identify online pharmacies in good standing. I guess most of them are qualified and have their own criteria in doing the certification. But it’s better for you to know the popular ones since most of the online pharmacies in good standing use these certificates, along with other certificates as supplements.

As I know, there are two popular online pharmacy certificates:

1. Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites (VIPPS) Certificate

VIPPS certifies online pharmacy sites that are appropriately licensed.
It verifies:
the necessary state pharmacy licenses,
the Pharmacist-in-Charge licenses,
and the patient’s right to privacy.
With VIPPS seal attached on the site, you can be sure of the online pharmacy’s credibility.

The seal is like this:

2. Pharmacy Checker Certificate

Pharmacy checker certifies that the website markets prescription drugs that are dispensed by a pharmacy in good standing.
It verifies:
•Valid pharmacy license (U.S., Canada, and other accepted countries)
•Valid U.S. DEA registration if selling controlled substances
•Patient’s right to privacy and secure online transaction
•Requisition of original prescription prior to ordering
•Correct contact information on site
•Compliance of Pharmacy Standards Agreement

Pharmacy checker seal is also a sign of the product’s good quality. Below is the pharmacy checker seal:

But recently, many copycats use these seals in their fake online pharmacies. You have to be aware about this practice. Fortunately, it is quite easy to recognize the authenticity of the seal. Just click on it! If it enlarges in new window, you can be sure it is genuine.

You didn’t mention http://legitscript.com, which is a more comprehensive online pharmacy certification program.
